Unleashing the Power of AI in the Workplace
In recent years, both leaders and employees have faced significant changes. They have adapted to evolving work strategies, such as remote and hybrid work models, as well as changing generational preferences and, recently, the acceptance of fractional leadership. However, all of these changes pale in comparison to the transformative impact of AI. AI is reshaping the way we work, fundamentally redefining our approach to tasks and processes and how we become more productive.
Superhuman Powers and Productivity
AI possesses the capability to unlock “superhuman” powers by granting us access to previously hard-to-find information: insights, education, and data. When we examine the productivity of the global economy as measured by GDP per hour worked, we observe a remarkable upward trend that can be attributed to AI’s influence. This upward curve is nearly straight, indicating the significant impact AI is having on enhancing productivity.

According to Geoffrey Hinton, AI is not just a faster way to gather information, but it connects information from many sources, assimilates it in context, and adds a level of speed never seen before. If we consider that professionals will be enhanced by AI, companies that embrace this technology will have a competitive advantage. AI has already begun to supercharge individuals and improve productivity.
Skills Over Titles
Forward-thinking companies are now redefining jobs as a combination of skills and tasks, rather than just focusing on titles. They are also considering how these skills and tasks will evolve as AI technology progresses. By viewing jobs as a collection of tasks, it becomes easier to identify which ones are more susceptible to automation. However, this does not necessarily mean that these jobs will disappear. Instead, the focus can be shifted towards upskilling professionals to handle more intricate tasks and nurturing their interpersonal skills which are much less likely to be automated. This view of jobs as tasks not titles allows leaders to identify the skills that company needs to cultivate to stay competitive and agile in the age of AI.
Going Forward
Throughout history, individuals, just like us, have played a pivotal role in constructing and reconstructing the landscape of work. Now, it is our turn to seize this moment and rebuild the existing systems and pathways, making them more equitable, adaptable, and transparent. By crafting these new playbooks, we have the potential to expand economic opportunities, reaching a broader population and diverse locations like never
before. This, in turn, will catalyze unprecedented levels of innovation and growth. It’s important to remember that the future is not predetermined or inevitable. It is our collective responsibility to shape it and create a better world together.
